November Monthly Forum - Nov 10
Special Speaker
In honor of Veterans Day, we will be joined by Dr. Joseph Skelly, who recently returned from serving a year in Iraq. As Sergeant Skelly in the 411th Civil Affairs Reserve Battalion in support of the First Infantry Division in Baquba, Skelly was awarded the Bronze Star this past summer. His account of the Iraqi elections can be seen at http://411ca.org/skelly_nro_1.htm.
In his civilian life, Dr. Skelly is an assistant Professor of History at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, a true American Patriot and a hero.
Featured Speaker
Our featured speaker will be Alan Skorski, author of the new book "...Pants on Fire: How Al Franken Lies, Smears and Deceives"
Until now, Al Franken's continuous smears against his enemies while promoting himself as the "ultimate truth teller" have gone unchallenged by the mainstream media. Surprisingly, even conservative or right-leaning media have not challenged the falsity of much of what he says.
Alan Skorski has researched the facts regarding the allegations in Franken's last two books, monitored his daily radio show, spoken with people cited and referenced in Franken's books, and exchanged approximately 30 e-mails with Franken in order to provide readers with an accurate insight into how Franken thinks and operates. What Skorski finds is something very different from what Franken claims, and he concludes that, unlike many of the petty "lies" Franken writes about in his books, ...Pants on Fire reveals that Franken himself regularly lies, smears, and distorts what others say and do, ultimately discrediting himself as a "truth teller."
Indeed, according to Skorski, while Franken has called many people-from Rush Limbaugh and Brit Hume to President Bush-a "liar," "hypocrite," "cheater," "lazy," "shameless," and/or "dishonest," ...Pants on Fire amply illustrates not only that many of his claims are false but that Franken employs the very tactics he accuses the right of using.

NYYRC Endorsements for 2005 Elections
Endorsements for 2005 Elections
THE IDEAS AND SPIRIT OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY
TAKE STANDS ON PROPOSITION 1 AND DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT
The following is the list of candidates the NYYRC has endorsed:
PUBLIC ADVOCATE - Jay Golub
MANHATTAN BOROUGH PRESIDENT - Barry Popik
CITY COUNCIL:
DISTRICT 6 - Josh Yablon
DISTRICT 35 - Tony Herbert
DISTRICT 38 - Viviana Hernandez
DISTRICT 43 - Pat Russo
The Board also addressed two very important issues currently facing New Yorkers. These issues are:
BALLOT PROPOSAL 1 "REFORMING THE STATE BUDGET PROCESS" - the NYYRC urges a NO vote on Proposal 1, also referred to as the "Runaway Spending Amendment." The members believe this to be an unconstitutional power grab by the state legislature in order to short-circuit responsible budget negotiations for the future spending proposals in New York State.
REDEVELOPMENT OF LOWER MANHATTAN - the NYYRC has voted to support the alternate development plan for Ground Zero, created by architect Kenneth Gardner and supported by the Twin Towers II Memorial Foundation (http://wtctowersmemorial.org). This is the plan supported by developer Donald Trump and the NYYRC also agrees that this plan is far superior to the Freedom Tower plan now being supported by the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. The two main concerns of the NYYRC Board were to have a more respectful and appropriate memorial, and to build two towers instead of one, single tower in the place of the former Twin Towers.
"The Board of the NYYRC is proud to endorse and support these excellent candidates, who are some of the best and most interesting NYC's Republican Party has to offer," said Chairman Robert Hornak. "We wish them well in this years election and look forward to working with them in the future as Republican leaders devoted to building the Republican Party in NYC."
