A different Winner up until February 5th?

By now, it's pretty certain that we will see the three leading Democrats continue on through February 5th. As long as your campaign has cash, you don't drop out for the sake of giving up. Plus, John Edwards could win in South Carolina, which would make the Democrat side as interesting as the Republican side.

But the it's not as interesting as the Republican side. Mike Huckabee won Iowa. Mitt Romney won the insignificant Wyoming (sorry guys). John McCain won New Hampshire. There's talk that Romney could win Michigan and Fred Thompson tops out over Huckabee in South Carolina. Where does that leave us here in New York for February 5th?

I'm really enjoying the uncertainty. Some folks... or perhaps many folks... on the GOP side are not enjoying it. They think that with each passing primary of uncertainty, the chances of a GOP victory in November decreases.

I disagree.

The American People want someone they can get behind for the next four years. It could be Barack Obama. It could be John McCain. It still could even be Rudy Giuliani. But we have this process in place so the voters hear the talk and pay attention. Many don't. But for the most part, the process works and our country is 230 years old and still going strong.

Michigan will be an interesting game. If Romney doesn't win, his campaign is sadly through. However, the guy still has a ton of money, so there is no point in dropping out. He should pick a few states of the 22 on Super Tuesday and focus on them. Keep at it. It's not worth giving up.

However, I do feel if Fred Thompson doesn't place first (or maybe I can give him second) in South Carolina, he should pull out. I just don't see him being viable candidate without a win there. I still like Thompson, but he may be a better VP than a P.

Current polling in New York State shows McCain nipping at Rudy's heals and Huckabee in third place. I know that there are GOP election district leaders who have signed up as McCain and Huckabee delegates because they feel that Rudy would be bad for the GOP in the long haul.
