Everyone's a Winner! And that's a Good Thing

Governor Mike Huckabee won the Iowa Caucus.
Governor Mitt Romney won the Wyoming Caucus.
Senator John McCain won the New Hampshire Primary.

It seems the Republican voter can't make up its mind who should be our nominee. And that's a good thing. The NYYRC has been saying all along that when we run candidates for local office in New York City, the more the merrier. If there ends up being a primary, great. If not, let our candidates say what they believe and not espouse the party rhetoric of what they believe will win votes.

Upcoming Outcomes.
It would be nice to see Governor Mitt Romeny win a significant race and take Michigan.
To keep our field of candidates at six, we cross our fingers Sen. Fred Thompson takes South Carolina.
And though Huckabee is putting up a good fight, we want to see Mayor Rudy Giuliani win Florida.

This should keep our field of candidates at six - Rep. Ron Paul won't drop out and plans to stay on through the convention - and it should be exciting to see all six go into the 22 State Super Tuesday on February 5.

Just last night, I told someone that I still don't know who I plan to pull the lever for and I could remain like this going into the voting booth on February 5. I can't see any major changes popping up to make me suddenly say, "Yes, this will be my candidate." All of our candidates have qualities that would make any one of them effective. Some I like more than others, but I don't see a bad crop of candidates.

So I got my wish! Gov. Mitt Romney won in Michigan.
Romney will now hop over to South Carolina and prove what a great conservative he is. Best of luck, Mitt!

Gov. Huckabee is expected to do really well is the conservative south. McCain is also expected to do well by placing third, first and second in the first big three states. And we shouldn't forget Sen. Fred Thompson. He is selling himself as the traditional Reagan conservative, whether or not that is the case, I'm not sure.

Thompson needs to come in either first or second to make a stand going into Florida and Super Tuesday. A third place finish just won't cut it. Unfortunately, I won't be surprised if McCain, Huckabee & Romney do better than him. And that won't be a good outcome for a continued Thompson campaign.

As for the Giuliani campaign, I would love to get the name of the guy I spoke with a few months back who told me McCain was in the tanker and the nomination is already in Rudy's hands. A no brainer. Well, I wonder if he thinks back to what I was saying and has a hint of embarrassment.
