New York, NY-- The New York Young Republican Club will host a debate between two promising Republican candidates for the U.S. Congressional seat in New York’s 14th district on Monday, May 17, 2010, at 7:30 PM.

The young and talented rivals, Dino Laverghetta and Ryan Brumberg, are scheduled to speak at the event to be held at the Stone Creek Lounge on 140 East 27th Street in Manhattan. Doors will be open to the public, but seating and space are limited. The candidates will face off over a number of issues, including fiscal reform, national defense, and health care. This will be their first debate in advance of the September 14 primary.

The winner of the Republican primary will contend for the seat currently held by Democratic congresswomen Carolyn B. Maloney in the general election on November 2, 2010. Maloney has represented the 14th district, which spans from the east side of Manhattan to Roosevelt Island, Astoria, and Long Island City, since 1993.

NEW YORK CITY – The New York Young Republican Club is proud to announce its official endorsement of Jonathan J. Judge to represent District 44 in the New York City Council.

Judge stands for fiscal responsibility. He opposes tolls on the East River bridges, any form of congestion pricing and all types of “penalty” taxes. He organized Stop NYC Congestion Tax and testified before the City Council on how these types of taxes and fees hit the middle class and small businesses the hardest.

The New York Young Republican Club is proud to follow the list of local clubs endorsing Jonathan Judge, including the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Club, Brooklyn Young Republican Club, and the 44th AD Republican Club. We believe the election of Jonathan Judge will change the dynamic in Brooklyn politics and help bring the necessary “checks and balances” to City Hall that the borough so desperately needs.

Citizens Union (CU) recently announced that Ashok Chandra is the preferred candidate in the Fourth District’s Republican primary. CU cites Ashok’s reform agenda, his policy solutions, and his ability to offer a new perspective as reasons for its support.

Citizens Union is a nonpartisan organization that promotes good government and political reform in New York. It offers all city candidates the opportunity to complete its questionnaire, which addresses issues of government reforms, education, city spending, ballot initiatives, taxation, term limits, and numerous other matters that profoundly affect the citizens of this city.

Upon review of Ashok’s answers, CU applauded his reform-minded stance, his innovative policies, and his principled perspective.

Writes CU:

Mr. Chandra - a young and energetic candidate and a strong proponent of ballot access reform - brings an interesting perspective to this race, and has the potential to begin an engaging dialogue about government reform and policies within the district during the General Election, including his priorities to create incentives for business to remain in the city and ideas to reduce congestion...

as well as his position on term limits, which he believes should have been voted on by the people and not by the elected officials that had an interest in extending their own terms.

The Chandra for New York campaign team thanks CU for its support in the primary and is heartened by the preference, which it regards as yet another indication that Ashok Chandra is the 4th District’s most promising candidate this year.

NEW YORK CITY – The New York Young Republican Club is proud to announce its official endorsement of Ashok Chandra to represent District 4 in the New York City Council.

Chandra, a 30-year-old Indian-American attorney who lives in midtown with his wife and baby daughter, is a lifelong Republican and an active member of the Club, currently serving as a vice president. Last night, the Club’s executive board voted unanimously to endorse Mr. Chandra in his campaign effort. Of utmost importance to the Club’s decision is that Chandra embodies urban Republican principles in word and action. Mr. Chandra’s agenda calls for the promotion of small business, expansion of charter schools, reform of city government, and responsible city spending.

The Club is actively supporting Mr. Chandra in his race. Members have been collecting signatures throughout the 4th District, energized by the prospect of a Republican primary and excited to support a young and articulate candidate. Says one club member, “We support Ashok not only because he exemplifies conservative ideals and cares for his community. A primary race, especially with such a passionate candidate at the helm, will invigorate the grassroots, and city Republicans will be able to choose for themselves the best Republican to run on their line.”

More information about Ashok Chandra can be found on the web at www.ChandraforNewYork.com or via telephone at (646) 841-2152.

NEW YORK YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB TO NYC GOP: BLOCK BLOOMBERG FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY LINE

(New York, NY) Last night, the president of the New York Young Republican Club, Daniel Peterson, sent a letter to the five Republican Party chairmen for each of the NYC boroughs asserting that the NYC GOP should not endorse Mayor Michael Bloomberg for a third term nor permit him to run on the Republican Party line.

The organization argues that Mayor Bloomberg has not demonstrated a sufficient commitment to urban Republican principles, such as fiscal responsibility and personal liberty, and has impeded the growth of the party city-wide after pledging to encourage it. According to Peterson, Republican support for Bloomberg has not aided the party’s development in the past, and continued support would send the message that the Republican Party cares more about a candidate’s checkbook than his conservative credentials.

Peterson encourages the party chairmen to choose a candidate who will put into action the ideals that are held today by young Republicans across the city, contending that party growth will best served by running a mayoral candidate who truly values individual liberty and small government.
