Assembly GOP sue Governor

Assembly Republicans To File License Lawsuit

By Associated Press
November 1, 2007

ALBANY — Senate Republicans promised yesterday to delay or derail Governor Spitzer's new plan to make it easier to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Meanwhile, Republicans in the Assembly's minority said they will file a lawsuit today to stop Mr. Spitzer's "illegal plan," which was announced Saturday. The Republican leader of the Assembly, James Tedisco, said it would "make our state and nation a less secure, less safe place."

While the GOP-led Senate said it will continue trying to block the license program through legislation, and may deny funds in the 2008-09 budget, the Democrat-led Assembly has no plans to oppose the Democratic governor's plan.

Republican senators had just as many objections to the new plan for three levels of licensing as they did to a single-license plan announced in September, but their latest arguments focused on national security.

Harlem Clergyman Wants To Establish a New School

BY GRACE RAUH - Staff Reporter of the Sun
October 26, 2007

A Harlem church is suing the state in an attempt to overturn a law that bars religious organizations from running charter schools even if the schools don't teach religion, a move likely to prompt new debate about the separation between church and state.

The Reverend Michel Faulkner of New Horizon Church Ministry said he wants to open a charter school in Harlem or Washington Heights that would be affiliated with his church, but would not have a religious component to the curriculum. If successful, Rev. Faulkner could change the face of new charter schools, allowing churches, synagogues, and mosques to operate them in New York.

Personal Thank You from Yvette V. Bennett

Dear Fellow Elephants and Supporters,

Over the last few months many people across this district, borough and city banded together to support my campaign.  I know how much you’ve dedicated and sacrificed for the principles we value so dearly.  Although we are disappointed with the results (after all, it is no fun to lose), we must remember what is important.  We have laid a foundation for the future of this district.  For this, I thank you.

Was it worth it?  Absolutely!  By remaining true to our convictions in this difficult environment, people all over the district learned that there are values worth fighting for, that school choice is possible, that our children and community can be protected from sexual predators, that lowering taxes will help our economy and that the Republican Party is coming back in this district.  But the real battle for the future is just beginning.  We need to regroup and redouble our efforts to engage and reach the hearts and minds of our neighbors and bring new people on board.  Our commitment is about more than politics, it is about principals and our future.

Below, is a list of my campaign all-stars.  I honor these people for their sacrifices and dedication to my campaign.  I thank them for having faith in me and in this cause.

John Spencer Fundraiser

Election Day is just a week away and our New York Republican and Conservative Party candidates are fighting an up-hill battle against powerful incumbents, who take your vote for granted! That’s why it is so important to help if you can. Please read the following letter from John Spencer:

Help me remind all New Yorkers - and all Americans - that Hillary plays politics with our national security. Her undermining of the Patriot Act leaves us vulnerable.

Help me inform all voters that Hillary's "tax and spend" habits are expensive. If Senator Clinton had her way, New Yorkers would have $36 billion less in their pockets. She voted against the cuts in personal income tax in 2001 and 2003; $36 billion that created jobs and left you with more money in your pocket.

Clinton was polled by Zogby at 55 percent – before the two debates. Other polls showed 41 percent of New Yorkers opposing Clinton's re-election – before the two debates. The tide of this election has turned and will turn more competitive with each day, but we need money to get our message out.

The Spencer campaign is trying hard to raise $1,000,000 in order to fund a television ad informing New Yorkers how Hillary has deceived the public. Please consider attending a fundraiser this Wednesday evening at Yonkers (see attachment) or making a generous donation in your absence here
