Citizens Union Prefers Ashok Chandra In Republican Primary

Citizens Union (CU) recently announced that Ashok Chandra is the preferred candidate in the Fourth District’s Republican primary. CU cites Ashok’s reform agenda, his policy solutions, and his ability to offer a new perspective as reasons for its support.
Citizens Union is a nonpartisan organization that promotes good government and political reform in New York. It offers all city candidates the opportunity to complete its questionnaire, which addresses issues of government reforms, education, city spending, ballot initiatives, taxation, term limits, and numerous other matters that profoundly affect the citizens of this city.
Upon review of Ashok’s answers, CU applauded his reform-minded stance, his innovative policies, and his principled perspective.

NEW YORK CITY – The New York Young Republican Club is proud to announce its official endorsement of Ashok Chandra to represent District 4 in the New York City Council.
Chandra, a 30-year-old Indian-American attorney who lives in midtown with his wife and baby daughter, is a lifelong Republican and an active member of the Club, currently serving as a vice president. Last night, the Club’s executive board voted unanimously to endorse Mr. Chandra in his campaign effort. Of utmost importance to the Club’s decision is that Chandra embodies urban Republican principles in word and action. Mr. Chandra’s agenda calls for the promotion of small business, expansion of charter schools, reform of city government, and responsible city spending.
The Club is actively supporting Mr. Chandra in his race. Members have been collecting signatures throughout the 4th District, energized by the prospect of a Republican primary and excited to support a young and articulate candidate. Says one club member, “We support Ashok not only because he exemplifies conservative ideals and cares for his community. New York Young Republicans Say No to Bloomberg

NEW YORK YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB TO NYC GOP: BLOCK BLOOMBERG FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY LINE

(New York, NY) Last night, the president of the New York Young Republican Club, Daniel Peterson, sent a letter to the five Republican Party chairmen for each of the NYC boroughs asserting that the NYC GOP should not endorse Mayor Michael Bloomberg for a third term nor permit him to run on the Republican Party line.
The organization argues that Mayor Bloomberg has not demonstrated a sufficient commitment to urban Republican principles, such as fiscal responsibility and personal liberty, and has impeded the growth of the party city-wide after pledging to encourage it. According to Peterson, Republican support for Bloomberg has not aided the party’s development in the past, and continued support would send the message that the Republican Party cares more about a candidate’s checkbook than his conservative credentials.
Peterson encourages the party chairmen to choose a candidate who will put into action the ideals that are held today by young Republicans across the city, contending that party growth will best served by running a mayoral candidate who truly values individual liberty and small government.
